Malachi splurged on some Morels!!

We couldnt remember how to cook them so we tried several different ways (some breaded, some not). Next time I think I'll try baking them maybe... Oh morel mushrooms, how I love you!

I've never seen or heard of such a thing, they look like sea sponge, weird. Do they taste like mushrooms, I'm so curious, I wouldn't even know where to find them.

They are sooo delicious. When I lived in Oregon we would go morel hunting in the mountains. I like how I recently heard one guy describe them "They dont taste like mushrooms, they are like truffles!". They are truly an obsession. In fact, when people know where to find them, they will not tell you, because its such a treasure. And they are REALLY expensive to buy in the store. (I've seen anywhere from 30 to 100 dollars a pound). And you can only find them for about 2 weeks in the spring. They like to grow by dead elm trees and in old abandoned apple orchards...and in the mountains in oregon :)

Ah dont you wish I would tell you where our patch is. I can't count the times where we went out into the woods and filled a paper grocery bag half way up. My dad cooks them into a gravy with onions and fresh asparagras. It can be eaten on toast or potatos. mmmmmm.
